It’s been a while since my last blog post — years, actually. I hadn’t planned on writing again today, but here we are, because apparently bugs just follow me around.
I’m currently back in the job market after a few years, brushing up my resume, updating LinkedIn… and browsing through ZipRecruiter when I stumble upon this:
As you can see there, it tells me “Hey, something is wrong, but it doesn’t tell me which field, or what’s the issue. By the way, the form has several fields, I just took that screencast small to prevent showing my info.
I immediately knew (by experience, you know!) that the problem was with the emojis in the field. Again, as you can see there, just removing them helped out saving it successfully.
I couldn’t help but laugh — not because it’s a major bug, but because I wasn’t even looking for bugs. I was just trying to update my profile. But when you’ve spent enough time in QA, it’s like your eyes are trained to spot them in the wild.
To the dev or QA out there who eventually stumbles on this one: I see you. We’ve all shipped something like it. And to the rest of us — may our error messages always be clear and visible. 👀
Until the next bug finds me…
P.S. Hit me up if you need an awesome QA Manager — I’m currently looking!
